Middle Land Chan was established in April 2008 by Grand Master Wei Chueh, a influential modern Buddhist Monk. Being from Taiwan, he is most well known for founding Chung Tai Chan Buddhist monastery and order. He is also credited with reviving the traditional teachings of chan Buddhism.
Middle Land Chan places great value on engaging and welcoming the community in the surrounding area. They hold a variety of public events and are welcoming of people of all cultures, faiths, and belief systems. They aim to "help people learn about the ageless wisdom of Buddhism, discover the joy of meditation, and uncover the "Buddha Nature" within all of us." This goal can be seen in the various offerings of the monastery. They hold free weekly classes at various levels which include both meditation instruction and lessons about various aspects of Buddhism including the history of Zen Buddhism, and various teachings of the Buddha. They also hold half-day meditation retreats every Sunday morning that are again free and open to the public.
In addition to classes and meditation retreats, Middle Land Chan also holds various Buddhist ceremonies such as The Mahayana Diamond of Perfect Wisdom Repentance Ceremony, the 88 Buddhas Repentance Ceremony, and the Compassionate Water Repentance Ceremony.
