Thacher's Outdoor Memorial Chapel - Overview

Thacher's Outdoor Memorial Chapel is a scenic, open-air chapel on campus at The Thacher School. The boarding school in Ojai, California was established in 1889. The chapel began to take shape in 1918 as a war garden. In 1920 the pergola was added, and in 1951 the chapel was constructed.

The chapel remains a part of the school to this day and is mentioned on the school's website. "In our outdoor chapel overlooking the Ojai Valley, nondenominational services are offered on many religious holidays. Regular convocations give the community a chance to reflect on and investigate spiritual, religious, and ethical questions."

This exhibit will focus on a few features of the chapel as well as two yearly events: Senior Vespers and the Easter Sunrise Service.
