This plaque honors alumni who died in World War One. At the top of the plaque is embossed the phrase "It is for us the living -" which is taken from the Gettysburg Address.

Each year, sophomores in English class choose an alumnus from this plaque to research. Using research done online as well as in the school's library, utilizing resources such as old yearbooks, students write a letter from the perspective of the fallen alumnus. This assignment takes place alongside reading "All Quiet on the Western Front," a novel about World War I.

Researching an alumnus that died in war fosters the connection between each student and the school's history. It is truly for the students, "for us the living" to maintain a connection with the past.
